Looking for a 1Password alternative? Here's an honest one

Most "1Password alternative" pages exist to trash 1Password. That's not this. 1Password is a well-built, well-funded, widely-trusted product — it earned that reputation. The honest reasons people go looking for an alternative to it are usually narrower and more specific than "it's bad," so here they are, plainly.

Reason one: it never stops costing money

1Password Individual runs roughly ₹340/month (about ₹4,070/year, converted from its listed US-dollar monthly price — you'd actually be billed in dollars) — for as long as you use it. Five years in, that's close to ₹20,400 paid, with another payment due every year after. Vaultherit Lite and Pro are one-time purchases — ₹4,999 and ₹9,999 respectively, paid once, yours forever. If you're the kind of person who resents a bill you forgot you were still paying, that difference compounds.

Reason two: there is no built-in way to hand it off

This one surprises people. 1Password has no legacy-contact or beneficiary-access feature — and not by oversight. Its zero-knowledge design means 1Password itself cannot decrypt or release a vault to anyone, even after the owner's death. Their own recommended workaround is manual: save an Emergency Kit PDF yourself, and tell a trusted person where to find it. Vaultherit builds this in directly — a splittable emergency access key, a dead-man's-switch check-in, recovery shares, and a family tree, all inside the vault itself, on Pro.

Reason three: it stops at passwords, cards, and notes

1Password covers logins, passkeys, payment cards, secure notes, and a limited amount of document storage — genuinely solid at that specific job. It was never built to hold your property records, insurance policies, or a running net-worth picture. Vaultherit's 23 record types across 7 categories exist because the goal was never just "remember my passwords" — it was "if something happened to me tomorrow, could my family actually find what they need."

Where 1Password still wins — said plainly

Broader platform support (Mac, Linux, iOS, browser extensions — Vaultherit today is Windows and Android only) and a longer public track record are real, legitimate reasons to stay with 1Password. We'd rather say that directly than pretend otherwise.
